[ah-fee-yet ol-soon] int.
bon appétit / enjoy your meal / glad it was good
DT: may it be healthy
You will hear this phrase a lot before you start using it, that is unless you immediately start hosting people or inviting people over for dinner or drinks. Not to be confused with “you’re welcome”, afiyet olsun is often used after someone says thank you to the server when they are at a restaurant, bar, or cafe. It’s also used after someone compliments the chef, or perhaps when you pass some friends who are eating or drinking, or you call someone on the phone while they are eating and drinking. In Turkey, they use this phrase all the time- and it can also be used at any point (before, during, or after) while eating and/or drinking.
