DT: monopoly distributor

During the 20th century, the government was the only producer and distributor of tobacco and alcohol products and this public corporation was named The Department of Monopolies (Tekeller Umum Müdürlüğü). The government is still strictly controlling the taxing and distribution of these products although the monopoly is over since the 2000’s. And people still use the word for stores that sell liquor. A reminder: Retail sales of alcoholic beverages is illegal between 10 pm and 6 am.
